After he freed his master they proceded to Mount Doom together and he saw how Gollum bit the One Ring of the finger of Frodo and fell into the Cracks of Doom. After the quest was over Sam married Rose Cotton and became Thain of the Shire. After Rose died he left middle-earth as he had also been a Ring Bearer. "
